Apple iPhone 7 smartphone was launched in September 2016. The phone comes with a 4.70-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 750 pixels by 1334 pixels at a PPI of 326 pixels per inch. 

The Apple iPhone 7 is powered by quad-core Apple A10 Fusion processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage cannot be expanded. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Apple iPhone 7 packs a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 7-megapixel front shooter for selfies. 

The Apple iPhone 7 runs iOS 10 and is powered by a 1960mAh non removable battery. It measures 138.30 x 67.10 x 7.10 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 138.00 grams.

Europe Heads to Mars in Search of Life
Thirteen years after its first, failed attempt to place a rover on Mars, Europe reaches a crucial stage Sunday in a fresh quest to scour the Red Planet for signs of life, this time with Russia.
Mission controllers will instruct a spacecraft about 175 million kilometres (109 million miles) from Earth to release and steer a paddling pool-sized lander towards the Red Planet's cold, dry surface.
Scheduled to arrive next Wednesday (October 19), the short-lived lander's sole purpose is to prepare the way for a subsequent rover which will drill into Mars in search of extra-terrestrial life.
"Our goal here is to prove we can get to the surface, do science, take data," European Space Agency (ESA) science advisor Mark McCaughrean said ahead of Sunday's lander-release manoeuvres.
Dubbed Schiaparelli, the 600-kilogramme (1,300-pound) lander will separate from its mothership, the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), after a seven-month, 496 million-kilometre (308 million-mile) trek from Earth.
The lander and the TGO - which will enter into orbit around Mars to sniff its atmosphere for gases excreted by living organisms - comprise the first phase of the joint European-Russian ExoMars project.
The second phase, due for launch in 2020 after a two-year funding delay, is the ExoMars rover, for which Schiaparelli will be testing entry and soft-landing technology.
More than half of US, Russian and European attempts to land and operate craft on the Martian surface since the 1960s have failed.
The last time Europe tried, the British-built Beagle 2 disappeared without a trace after separating from the Mars Express mothership in December 2003.
It was finally spotted in January 2015 in a Nasa picture of Mars. It showed that even though Beagle 2 failed to establish contact, it had successfully landed.
What's making the methane?
The United States is alone in having successfully operated rovers on Mars. If there is life on Mars, it is unlikely to be found on the surface, which is bombarded by ultraviolet and cosmic rays.
But scientists say traces of methane in Mars' thin atmosphere may be an indicator of something stirring underground. Methane also does not survive the Sun's ultraviolet rays for long, McCaughrean explained.
"And so for it actually to exist in the Martian atmosphere, it must be coming from something. Something must be making methane." One possible source is underground volcanoes. Another is life: single-celled microbes called methanogens, which on Earth live in places without oxygen such as animal stomachs, where they convert carbon dioxide into methane.
It is hoped that the ExoMars rover - equipped to drill two-metres (six feet) below the surface - will yield some clues as to the provenance of Mars' methane. In the meantime, Schiaparelli's exploits will be crucial in designing the rover's landing gear.
The lander will separate from the TGO around 1430 GMT on Sunday, about a million kilometres (621,000 miles) from the Red Planet. It will enter the atmosphere on Wednesday at an altitude of some 121 kilometres and a speed of nearly 21,000 kilometres (13,000 miles) per hour.
The hot and bumpy trip through Mars' atmosphere will take six minutes. To protect the lander, an "aeroshell" will absorb and dissipate the heat generated by atmospheric drag for the first three or four minutes.
When it has reached an altitude of 11 kilometres and slowed to 1,700 km/hr, a supersonic parachute will be deployed, the ESA said.
After slowing further and jettisoning its shell and parachute, Schiaparelli will activate nine speed-control thrusters. It will briefly hover at an altitude of two metres before cutting its engines and falling to the surface. The impact is meant to be absorbed by a crushable structure in the lander's belly - similar to a car's crumple zone.
"It is a complex mission," Thierry Blancquaert, ESA's Schiaparelli manager, told AFP. "Landing on Mars requires a lot of technology."
With a 10-minute delay - the time it takes for a message to reach Earth - Schiaparelli will send data on temperature, humidity, density profile and electrical properties.
Battery-driven and without solar panels, the lander should last for two or three days.
"Even if it does not work, we will gain a lot of information," said Michel Denis, ExoMars flight director. "If something goes wrong, we will know what it was."
After releasing Schiaparelli, the TGO will change course to avoid crashing into Mars. It will then start a 12-month process of "aerobraking" - skimming the Martian atmosphere to bleed off energy -- to change its eccentric orbit into a circular one.
In early 2018, it will start analysing Mars' atmosphere from an altitude of about 400 kilometres. If Sunday's separation fails, mission controllers can try again on Monday.

AMD Reaches Deal With Alibaba to Use Chips in Cloud Service
Advanced Micro Devices Inc., struggling to re-establish its data centre chip business, said Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. plans to provide cloud-computing services based on its graphics semiconductors.
China's largest e-commerce company is working on expanding the range of services it offers over the internet and will work with Advanced Micro Devices to use the chipmaker's Radeon Pro graphics, the companies said Friday in a statement.
For AMD, which is the second-largest maker of graphics chips used in high-end computers behind Nvidia Corp., the deal is the chance to kick start a return to the lucrative data centre market dominated by Intel Corp. Graphics chips are playing an increasing role in data centres where their ability to process information in parallel makes them useful in certain work loads such as image recognition.
Nvidia has pioneered this more general use of the chips, which had mainly been used by computer gamers to get a more realistic experience from their hardware. AMD, based in Sunnyvale, California, has begun its fight back from market share losses to Nvidia in graphics and Intel in general purpose processors with new products that have closed the gap in performance.
AMD's stock has more than doubled this year, making it the best performer on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index, spurred by improving sales and progress in its attempt to return to profitability.

For Honor to Be Playable in India for the First Time at IGX 2016
PlayStation VR isn’t the only gaming-related first for India at IGX 2016 or the Indian Games Expo as it’s called. For those of you who managed to sit through Ubisoft’s inordinately long E3 2016 presentation, you probably remember medieval-themed hack and slash game, For Honor.
A sizeable portion of the game’s single-player campaign was shown off on stage, dispelling murmurs of the title being multiplayer only. This was followed by an alpha that was open for public registration for a host of regions barring India for reasons related to bandwidth constraints.
Nonetheless, Ubisoft will be showing off the game’s single-player mode at IGX 2016 - a first for the country in the longest time. To put it in perspective, the last time an unreleased game had a public showcase was PS3-exclusive Killzone 2 at the 2008 PlayStation Experience which took place in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru.
And if Viking on knight on samurai action isn’t of interest to you, there will be tournaments for Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, WWE 2K17, and Mortal Kombat XL at IGX 2016 with a combined Rs. 200,000 prize pool. Not too shabby for games that aren’t Counter-Strike, Dota 2, or League of Legends.
Further shoring up the list are a host of locally developed games such as Asura. a Diablo-styled game from Hyderabad-based Ogre Head Studios, Zenith, a role-playing co-developed by Bengaluru’s Holy Cow Productions, and Dodgefall, a racing game from Roosh Interactive, a studio based in Mumbai.
This year’s edition of IGX will take place at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai from October 15 to 16.

Apple i Car

Over the weekend, the internet experienced a super nova of hot takes on Apple's forthcoming car. Time told us what it "could" look like. Business Insider explained why Apple's car will be great for Tesla. Wired explained that it's not as ridiculous as you think, even though it's far from clear that you do think it's ridiculous.

Between the aggregation, the speculation, and the punditry, those who haven't been glued to the tech press for days may be confused. Here's a brief guide to what is known about Apple and the auto industry, and why it has so many people talking.

1) Why is everyone talking about an Apple Car?

Patient Zero for the Apple Car craze is a story released Friday evening by Daisuke Wakabayashi and Mike Ramsey of the Wall Street Journal. They reported that Apple "has several hundred employees working secretly toward creating an Apple-branded electric vehicle, according to people familiar with the matter." This was very quickly followed by a report from Tim Bradshaw and Andy Sharman of the Financial Times who say that Apple "is recruiting experts in automotive technology and vehicle design to work at a new top-secret research lab, said several people familiar with the company."

The FT also slightly contradicted the Journal's reporting, saying that "dozens" of Apple employees (rather than hundreds) "are researching automotive products at a confidential Silicon Valley location outside the company's Cupertino campus."

Reuters followed with a story from Edward Taylor and Alexei Oreskovic who reported that Apple is trying "to learn how to make a self-driving electric car" and sourced this information to "a senior auto industry source familiar with the discussions."

2) Is Apple building a car?

Maybe! But even though it would be fun to assume the answer is yes and start the speculation rolling, the reporting that's happened thus far really leaves it very unclear.

For starters, hundreds of people isn't nearly enough to start a car company. Tesla, a high-profile but distinctly niche automaker, has 10,000 workers. The Volkswagen Group has over half a million. A group of hundreds could be the foundation of what ultimately becomes a stylish, technology intensive automobile manufacturing operation but it's a long ways from getting there. Maybe it's a serious exploration that won't go anywhere.

The subsequent reporting from the FT and Reuters may feel like it's confirming the WSJ report about an electric car, but in many ways it's not.

While hundreds is too few to run an auto production operation, it's certainly a lot of people. By contrast, the FT's team of "dozens" could easily be doing R&D on auto accessories rather than building a car. All the Reuters story really says, meanwhile, is that Apple executives talked to at least one senior auto company executive (probably from one of the German automakers, based on the Frankfurt/San Francisco byline) about self-driving cars.

That's intriguing, if true, but hardly definitive confirmation of anything.

3) Speculation is fun! What's the Apple car going to be like?

Here's how I'd be thinking about the landscape if I were the CEO of a cash-rich and highly profitable technology company with few products and some interest in the car industry. Right now, the automotive world is being unsettled by three trends that at the moment have not converged:

Electric cars
Autonomous vehicles
Smartphone hailing
But these trends actually should work together seamlessly in the long run. Rather than owning cars, people will get around town in electric powered autonomous vehicles that they hail from their smartphones. A company with a boatload of money, engineering, software, and design expertise could underwrite a shoot-the-moon project to create the future of daily transportation.

Electric cars: Current EV technology has a demonstrated capacity to deliver an excellent driving experience. But batteries capable of long-range driving (like the ones Tesla uses) are extremely expensive, and even with one long road trips remain annoying and inconvenient. But the vast majority of car trips are short — to work or the grocery store or the kids' school. If you hired a different car for each trip, EVs with relatively small batteries could suffice for the vast majority of travel.
Smartphone hailing: Mobile car hiring apps ("ridesharing") have been a big success at solving one big problem with the traditional taxi industry — it is a much more convenient way to connect drivers with riders. They've also improved payment systems. And by introducing additional competition into the often cartelized taxi industry, they've lowered prices. Buy paying someone else to drive you is still very expensive compared to driving yourself. Uber and Lyft have a great toehold in the modest-sized taxi market, but are still drops in the bucket of the overall driving around market.
Autonomous vehicles: A wide range of companies, including incumbent automakers and Google, have been developing various degrees of autonomous driving. This is technology with potentially far-reaching promise. But most car companies are focusing their efforts on incremental technologies like automatic parking, collision avoidance, and lane control that while intriguing aren't yet an obvious source of huge sales or profits.
Combine all three technologies in one package and you have a game-changer. The low fuel costs of an EV plus the zero driver costs of an autonomous vehicle, could make ubiquitous taxis the dominant form of urban transportation in America. Apple could do all that and make the car look really cool. Why not?

The MintBox Mini is a silent, quad-core Linux Mint PC that fits in your pocket


Linux users will no longer be left out of the miniature PC party with the MintBox Mini, a pocket-sized Linix Mint rig, due out next quarter.

While devices like the Raspberry Pi have already enabled Linux in diminutive packages, the MintBox Mini should be a clear step up in performance. According to the Linux Mint blog, it'll pack an AMD A4 6400T processor with Radeon R3 graphics, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of solid state storage. That should be more than sufficient for Web browsing, word processing, and video playback. As the name suggests, it'll include Linux Mint out the box.

Between the SSD and the passively cooled processor, the MintBox Mini runs utterly silent.

As for size, the MintBox Mini will measure 0.95 inches thick, with a volume of 0.22 liters. That makes it three times smaller than Intel's NUC desktops, and five times smaller than the original Mintbox from 2012. It should be small enough to stuff in your pocket.

Connectivity options will include two HDMI ports, two headphone/microphone jacks, MicroSD and five USB ports. It'll also have an Ethernet jack and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi.

There's no shortage of inputs and outputs on this little guy.

There's no word on an exact release date, but manufacturing partner CompuLab plans to offer the MintBox Mini through Amazon some time in the second quarter. It'll cost $295, with a portion of the proceeds going to Linux Mint, and will include a five-year warranty.

Why this matters: Miniature, desktop-grade PCs have been gaining traction lately, with Intel pushing its NUC kits and several PC vendors offering their own tiny Chrome OS and Windows boxes. But if you want Linux running out of the box, your options have been slim. While we haven't seen the MintBox Mini up close, there's a chance it could tick all the right boxes for Linux geeks when it launches later this year.

1. Edit images with Adobe Photoshop

Adobe and Google recently announced they’d be making Photoshop available as a streaming Chrome app. This means Photoshop will work on Chrome OS, and even in Chrome on desktop Linux! To do this, the Windows version of Chrome will run on Adobe’s servers and be streamed to your Chrome web browser.

It sounds unnecessarily complicated (and means an Internet connection is vital), but Photoshop is actually such a demanding application that this could be useful. When you use demanding functions, they can be sped up because they’re running on Adobe’s servers—they won’t drain your laptop’s battery faster or send modest Chromebook processors screaming. Photoshop will be integrated with Google Drive, so you can easily keep track of your files.
Currently, this feature is in beta and available only to “select North America based Adobe education customers with a paid Creative Cloud membership.” But it should eventually come to all Creative Cloud subscribers.

2. Use Microsoft Office

Microsoft likes to trumpet how Chromebooks don’t have the full desktop version of Microsoft Office, and that’s true. But unless you’re an accountant, you probably don’t need all those fancy features.
Microsoft offers a completely free web-based version of Office called Office Online, complete with Word Online, Excel Online, and PowerPoint Online. Microsoft even makes these apps available in the Chrome Web Store. These web apps aren’t just for Chromebook users, though. Windows users could use Office Online to get an official Microsoft Office experience for free, and they let desktop Linux users use an official version of Microsoft Office without hacking around in Wine, too.

If you tried Microsoft’s “Office Web Apps” in the past and weren’t crazy about them, give them another try. Reborn as Office Online they’ve been much improved.
Compared to Google Docs, Office Online doesn’t offer any offline support, which is a bit of a bummer. But it does provide a familiar interface and more-or-less guaranteed compatibility with Microsoft Office documents. It saves those Office documents to OneDrive, where you can access them using Office apps on any other device—even the full desktop version of Office on your Windows or Mac.

3. Run (almost) any Android app

Google is working toward allowing all Android apps to run on Chrome OS. They recently released just four Android apps for Chrome, but enterprising hackers (the good kind) have found ways to make (almost) any Android app run on a Chromebook. Yes, this means you can now use Skype on a Chromebook.

This is becoming easier all the time. You can now use the ARChon Package app on Android to quickly convert an Android app to run on Chrome, or install the twerk Chrome app to quickly package an APK file for installation in Chrome.
This feature is very likely to keep improving, so apps that don’t work perfectly now should eventually work better. When Google is done, Chromebooks will be able to access a whole new universe of software without any hacks whatsoever.

4. Work offline

Yes, you can work offline on a Chromebook. Read your Gmail and compose new messages? Sure. View your Google Calendar? No problem. Edit documents in Google Drive? You got it.

Beyond the basics, you can download Kindle eBooks, videos, music, and PDFs to view offline. Use a Chrome app like Google Keep to compose notes or manage your to-do list with an app like Wunderlist or Any.DO. You can even purchase TV shows and movies from Google Play Movies & TV and download them to watch them offline, too. If you just want to kill some time, you can also install games that run offline.
Sure, many things on a Chromebook can only be done online, but let’s stop pretending that’s unique to Chromebooks. It’s 2014, and even a Windows or Linux laptop feels practically unusable when there’s no Internet connection available.
And, in Chrome 39—which is still working its way through development versions, so you probably won’t have this feature yet—you’ll be able to play an endless running gamewhenever you see an “Unable to connect to the Internet” page.

5. Use a full desktop operating system

This last feature isn’t for the novice users that just buy Chromebooks for their simplicity. But this is World Beyond Windows, where I tout the benefits of Linux, so I can’t leave it out.
Flip the developer mode switch (it’s in software now, but it used to be a hardware switch) and you can get full access to your Chromebook’s internals. You can install a full desktop Linux system (like Ubuntu) alongside your Chrome OS system. Flip over to the Linux system when you want to do some work with traditional desktop apps and powerful terminal commands.

Or, even better, install Steam for Linux and play games—as long as you have an Intel-based Chromebook and not an ARM one, that is. Or, with Steam in-home streaming, you could run those games on your gaming PC and stream them to a Chromebook running Steam for Linux.
You could also install other Linux applications like Minecraft and Skype for Linux, both of which are now Microsoft applications. Yup, Microsoft makes Skype (and now Minecraft) for desktop Linux, but not Chrome OS. MakeUseOf has a great primer on installing Linux on a Chromebook if you’re curious.
The list of things a Chromebook can’t do is shrinking rapidly. Recent advancements like Chrome apps, Android apps on Chromebooks, and Photoshop for Chrome OS show Google is serious about evolving the platform. It can all seem a bit messy—shouldn’t developers be making Chrome apps and not Android apps?—but it’s undeniably making Chromebooks more powerful and capable.

SanDisk has launched a new version of its small USB stick that can help transfer pictures, video and other files between computers and smartphones.
The Ultra Dual USB Drive 3.0 comes in 16 gigabyte (GB), 32GB or 64GB capacities and has a conventional USB connector on one end for hooking up to a computer and a micro USB connector on the other end for plugging into a smartphone.
Compared to a version launched in 2014, the new model supports the USB 3.0 standard that offers faster data transfer speed.
It’s compatible with PCs and Macs but the smartphone needs to be an Android phone that supports “USB On The Go,” a recent addition to the USB specification that allows phones to recognize USB memory devices. Most high-end phones include On The Go support, but many mid-range and low-end handsets don’t so check the specifications of your phone.
The USB connectors stay hidden when not in use and slide out of the device when needed. SanDisk has designed the micro USB connector to be 2 millimeters longer than normal so phones don’t have to be removed from protective cases when being used with the gadget.
The drive costs between $23 and $65 depending on capacity and is available now, the company said.
